MUC1 and sialoglycan expression associated with cytotoxic T lymphocyte infiltration in eyelid malignant tumors.

چکیده
PURPOSE To elucidate the relation between infiltrating cytotoxic T lymphocytes and the expression of MUC1 and sialoglycans in malignant eyelid tumors. METHODS The distribution of MUC1, Maackia amurensis lectin-II (MAL-II)-recognized sialoglycan, and CD8-positive T lymphocytes was examined histochemically in 14 patients with malignant eyelid tumors: three squamous cell carcinomas, six sebaceous gland carcinomas, and five basal cell carcinomas. The density of CD8-positive cells was examined and correlated with MUC1 and sialoglycan expression. RESULTS MUC1 was identified in squamous cell carcinoma and sebaceous gland carcinoma, but not in basal cell carcinoma. CD8-positive cells were more densely distributed in those squamous cell and sebaceous gland carcinoma cases that were more intense in MUC1 expression and weaker in MAL-II binding. Tumors with a strong expression of both MUC1 and MAL-II-bound sialoglycans showed few CD8-positive cells. CONCLUSIONS MUC1 with few sialoglycans is likely to induce an intense infiltration of CD8-positive cytotoxic T lymphocytes in eyelid cancers.

Immunohistochemical evaluation of lymphocyte types infiltrate into the canine seminomas
BACKGROUNDS: Seminoma is frequently observed in human and canine testes especially in cryptorchids. Canine and human seminomas are typically associated with leukocytic infiltration. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to identify the type of lymphocytes that infiltrate to seminomas. METHODS: Tumor infiltrating lymphocytes were evaluated by immunohistological techniques in 5 dogs with diffuse seminoma. Routine...
متن کاملOverexpression of GPC6 and TMEM132D in Early Stage Ovarian Cancer Correlates with CD8+ T-Lymphocyte Infiltration and Increased Patient Survival
Infiltration of cytotoxic T-lymphocytes in ovarian cancer is a favorable prognostic factor. Employing a differential expression approach, we have recently identified a number of genes associated with CD8+ T-cell infiltration in early stage ovarian tumors. In the present study, we validated by qPCR the expression of two genes encoding the transmembrane proteins GPC6 and TMEM132D in a cohort of e...

متن کاملControl of T-cell-mediated immune response by HLA class I in human pancreatic carcinoma.
PURPOSE Cell surface HLA class I molecules present peptides derived from human cellular proteins to T cells. In the present study, we investigated the expression of HLA class I in human pancreatic carcinoma. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN The expression of HLA class I antigen and the extent of tumor infiltration by T cells were investigated in 46 primary tumors and in 14 metastases of pancreatic cancer ...
متن کاملMUC1-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes eradicate tumors when adoptively transferred in vivo.
We have reported previously that MUC1 transgenic mice with spontaneous tumors of the pancreas (designated MET) naturally develop MHC class I-restricted, MUC1-specific CTLs as tumors progress (P. Mukherjee et al., J. Immunol., 165: 3451-3460, 2000). From these MET mice, we have isolated, expanded, and cloned naturally occurring MUC1-specific CTLs in vitro. In this report, we show that the CTL li...
